One needs to study the city known as “Pergamum”. This city had so much false idol worship to the god Zues, Dionysus (supreme god), Athena (sister god to Dionysus who was the god of wisdom), and so many more that “Pergamum” is referred to as “Satan’s seat in Rev. 2:13!
Another story in the bible that relates to this story by way of such idol worship happens to deal with the prostitute brought before Jesus whom was caught “with another man”. The more likely possibility of the “righteous lawers” standing in front of him trying to convict this women of sin worthy of death has a great potential of had actually been LEGAL prostitution ( the Romans allowed such because there were temples where this practice required such actions “for worship to the god”. The Old Testament stories mention such in Isiah, Kings, Lev. 18:22, 20:13. Paul writes about it in Romans. History books and the bible have recorded it long before Christ and a great deal during the first century (starting a few years right after Christ’s resurrection), but is very, very likely right before his cricifixion as well! It is impossiple to ignore because the idolitary at many temples required cutting oneself and a person can see with their own eyes in today’s time how wickedness and perversion does not automatically happen. This inductive possibility sure would have been more likely, which is never discussed, than the inductive idea she got saved when she did not ask for forgiveness, nor did Jesus give any verbal message of salvation, and the absolute WRONG IDEA that Jesus telling her to “go sin no more” means salvation ( when in fact it was due to the Lawyers testing him on law!)! How long can a person not sin? That story is not a story about forgiveness, UNLESS you want to do as the pompous righteous legal lawyers and try to “live by the law”. How many verses are there about that in the bible?
That entire story was LEGAL ISSUES that only the BIBLE LAWYERS could trip up Jesus and thus be able to PROVE he was a “false teacher”! JESUS IS THE WAY EVEN BY ALL THE LAWS (how many people want there to be another way than thru Jesus- the righteous man tried, the prostitute only “had to go away and sin no more” – that statement is nowhere close to a forgiving statement because it is NOT POSSIBLE for her to recieve forgiveness from Jesus by doing his instructions- if a man escapes dying in a car crash or a house fire does he recieve eternal life?- thus the story is about the LAWS! Matt.5:18) The Romans court was the only place ANY person could be convicted and sentenced to stoning. The final caveat in that story was the other law they tried to crucify him of was the fact it was ILLEGAL to WRITE on the Sabbath ( but NOT in the ground!)! (I have another lession as to what Jesus wrote in the dirt- very, very amazing- clue: 1 John 5:1-21; 1 Sam. 8:4-7; Heb. 9:22;Gal. 3:1-3). Jesus was being tested about the law and proved to them HE WAS THE LAW ( which also means “The One to come” and judge!-another hint).
My story may seem to have got off subject but I added that to only keep you focused on the TIME PERIOD of the writing, essence, history, etc., which absolutely is more relevant than anything now or another 4,869 years (or any other amount of time, but a few, which would be very, very close to the writers time table!).
The parable of Jesus writing in the sand gets distorted for the very same reasons! Many stories overlap in spiritual relationships but they can NOT when used expositorially.
